Pre-Salt Oil Reserves

Brazil currently produces almost 400,000 bopd from pre-salt reservoirs in the Santos and Campos Basins. Brazil's total oil production is currently 2.2 million bopd.

Petrobras forecasts Brazil's pre-salt oil production will reach 1.0 million bopd by 2017 and increase to 2.1 million bopd by 2020. Indeed, Petrobras has set a very ambitious goal to achieve by 2020, a production level of 4.2 million bopd of pre-salt oil production (Tako Koning P. Geol, Reservoir Magazine, Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists).

The oil industry is keenly watching to see if Brazil's success will be duplicated in West Africa. The following link is a very interesting article about the pre-salt oil reserves in Gabon, compared with the Brazil's pre-salt deposits.
